If you’ve ever wondered if you’re making a difference, read this…
Even after coaching for 18 years and receiving some amazing awards along the way, I still have my moments of wondering. Wondering if what I do makes a difference. And when I have those low moments, I pull out a note of gratitude from one of my former clients.
She wrote - “You have been a miracle in my life. I am blessed to have your guidance and friendship. You have a depth of wisdom and curiosity that is only surpassed by your depth of love.
Thank you for sharing your gifts so we may find ours.
Thank you for bringing spirituality and God into finding that path – teaching listening to God and to our hearts. I have never felt more freedom and passion than I do now.
Your wisdom helped me through great struggles to find strength within and to borrow yours. Thank you. Thank you. Love, J “
When I read this, it often moves me to tears-- first, because we don't always get to hear how we've affected someone else or made a difference. Second, because like I said, there are times when I'm overwhelmed and tired, when I feel as if the work I do doesn’t feel as if it’s anything special.
I’m just sharing what I know, sharing my experiences and things that come naturally to me as I’m called to do so.
Maybe you can relate.
And yet the thing is, it IS special – because of who I am.
I am the only person who can do exactly what I do in the way that I do it...
and it does make a positive impact
--> How often have you taken the time to think about how the work you do makes the world better?
~ Not because you’re laying shingles,
~ or rewiring a computer,
~ or writing up someone’s car loan…
~ Not because you’re runnin’ 5 companies and got your biggest payroll to lay out this week…
~ Not because you're juggling making meals,
~ or getting kids to school,
~ or balancing a checkbook...
...rather because of WHO YOU ARE - and the manner in which YOU DO WHAT YOU DO ...because that's what makes a difference.
See, you have BRILLIANCE inside you. You have your unique light and set of gifts, talents, abilities, and experiences.
And when you share them and the light of who you are, you make the world better.
It's that simple.
It’s just most people [make it complicated] mistake a job title or a bank balance for what makes them special. The value you bring is so much more.
ACTION: The Upside Challenge for the week is to spend time evaluating how you bring value by being who you are. What is it about you?
Next, write yourself a note of gratitude for doing what you do and being who you are.
Read it. And then remember to read it whenever you need reminding...
Now, go out and SHINE your LIGHT.
