Many elements factor in to who you are and who you become. As children we grow up shaped by our families, by circumstances, and the culture we're steeped in.
As we grow up, there is often a need to shed how we've been conditioned, because the "education" we've received or the habits we've adopted can start to work against us.
Over the course of my previous career in law enforcement and then starting and running Upside Thinking for nearly twenty years, I've learned that wherever you are on your path of personal and professional development, there are two things that consistently define you.
1. Your PATIENCE when you have nothing.
2. Your ATTITUDE when you have everything.
20 years ago, what I have in my life would have been unimaginable.
Today I stand here and say it’s all possible for you – if you’re willing to be COMMITTED to what matters most to you. This commitment requires tremendous patience because...
Life is gonna come in and try to get you distracted.
~ Family.
~ Friends.
~ Even the people you love most are gonna tell you that you don’t need to do “that.”
I’m here to share the reason I have
~ the OPPORTUNITIES,
~ the BUSINESS,
~ the CONNECTIONS,
~ the RELATIONSHIPS,
~ and the LIFE I have ...
... is because for the past 18 years, I’ve been doing the WORK it takes to get here.
I’ve been patiently working at being 1% BETTER and BETTER each day.
I never wanted to be the one-hit-wonder.
I wake up and do my best to stay FOCUSED and COMMITTED to what matters most to me.
--> Some days I’d rather run off and play in the fields.
--> Some days I’d rather say, “Screw it. This is too hard.”
Yet, I learned when you STAY FOCUSED on your mission and purpose,
you will reap the rewards – the BIG DIVIDENDS.
And that’s the game I’m intending to WIN... and WIN BIG. Every day.
Because while I have so much-- I'm always striving for improvement.
I realize too that success has meaning according to how I define it; what I hold as most important.
You see, my attitude and how I affect others matters too.
~This includes remembering the hard steps it's taken me to have what I have. ~It's remembering the help of others along the way.
~And it's remembering that generosity is part of my success and playing big.
ACTION: The Upside Challenge for the week is to examine how you define yourself. What does success look like for you?
Are you playing big by being committed and staying focused?
What do you need to do differently?
The world needs me and my brilliance.
Just like it needs yours.
