Understanding Where to Invest Your Time
The work that takes the most effort... usually takes the longest to see results.
Read that again.
This means you get the least near-term gain with things that take a lot of work.
Yet the benefit of doing them is they also have the highest payout.
Pillar #4 in my 7 Pillars of Leadership Success gives it to you straight... Live Your Priority.
This means you've got to UNDERSTAND where to invest your most precious commodity - YOUR TIME.
Actions that are Important, Not Urgent (thank you, Dr. Stephen Covey, re: Quadrant II) are just that - Important. The important actions are a good investment of your precious time.
And, they often get pushed out of the way by the URGENT or the fires brewing all around you.
When you take time to do what is IMPORTANT like getting in shape, writing articles, managing social media or building relationships ... you'll find that the payoff is gonna be SLOWER than you think it should be.
I speak from experience as there have been more times than I can count over the past 18 years in business... when I thought what I was doing "should" have produced results faster than I expected for all of the energy and effort I put in...
... which is why my invitation is for you is to stay on your course.
Take action.
Be consistent.
Live your highest priority. Invest your time, don't just spend it.
I had 5 conversations last week urging people to be clear about where they're going and see it from a 30,000-foot view... and then commit to doing what is boring and unsexy...
... trusting the payoff will come and it will be BIGGER than if they were to focus on what feels URGENT.
ACTION: The Upside Challenge for the week is to examine where you have been spending time handling urgent matters and forgetting what your bigger priority is.
Re-focus.
Invest in what's important - the long-term.
Remember, the world needs you and your brilliance.
