I became fascinated with stars when I went camping as a little girl.
Some nights the sky seemed as bright and beautiful as the fireworks show on the 4th of July.
After reading through my Encyclopedia Britannica at my grandparents, I learned each star is unique and different and emits a bright light. Yet as an adult, I understand it takes all of them to light up the sky.
If one star burns out, the night sky would be just a little bit darker.
That’s the way it is with life. When one person decides not to fully use their gifts, abilities, talents, and experiences at work or in the world, the planet is a little bit dimmer.
How can you practically implement this into your work and personal life?
First, acknowledge your value, your “(star)light”.
You have your unique gifts, abilities, talents, and experiences – and no one can do what you're able to do in the manner in which you're able to do it.
Some folks might say leadership is the same for all people.
I've learned that while all leaders may have similar skill sets, your personality, style, and experiences make the way you lead one-of-a-kind as no one else has walked your same path or had the full scope of your life's experiences.
The quality of your light is singular.
Be clear on who you are, the principles you stand for, and the values that guide you, or your light will be obscured ...
... making it harder for people to be guided or inspired by you and your work.
What actions allow you to acknowledge your (star)light?
1) Pay attention to your habits. Do you rely more on your inner wisdom or direction from others?
2) Pay attention to your beliefs. Do you operate from conditioning (in childhood, family systems, or cultural “norms”) or beliefs that are true to you? These are usually spotted by phrases such as, “I should be…”
3) Pay attention to who is in your inner circle. Be part of a community that is committed to your highest good. Find resources, like the Upside Accountability Circle, or Upside Leaders Program, or "Gateway to Greatness" Mastermind. Choose to hire coaches and mentors to positively guide and direct you. Spent time with friends that encourage, enlighten, and inspire you.
When you don't fully acknowledge your value, the world is a bit darker and the people who need you miss out.
Second: Trust in Divine Right Timing.
You can control your thoughts, beliefs, and actions.
That's it.
All other variables are out of your control, including the timing of something you may want or worked hard to get.
When I trust that everything happens FOR me, and not TO me ... and there is a divine order that operates in perfect timing, I trust there is a greater good for my circumstances.
If you spend time on what you can’t control, you can't be fully available to receive something better.
ACTION: The Upside Challenge of the week is to put both in place in a tangible way by writing out your value.
Take a deep breath and be in the noticing every time you don’t understand why something is “happening” to you.
Choose to shine your light ... and ...
.... remember, the world needs you and your brilliance…now more than ever.
