For a long time, I've been intentional about where I invest my dollars.
It doesn't matter whether I'm buying a product or a service; I've got to have a connection.
That's why I read labels and do my best to support small business owners.
It's also why I love the Estill County Farmers' Market and places like local flea markets.
The majority of my purchases are personal and connect to my values.
Years ago, my sister turned me on to a skincare and bath & body products company that wrote their brand philosophy on every label.
Most mornings in the shower, I'd read the label on their bottle:
philosophy®:
"One of the best tools for longevity and good health is not just taking a walk outdoors but taking your walk while holding the hand of God.
When we walk in gratitude for each and every moment, we empower ourselves by empowering our spirits.
When we breathe in nature through our eyes, ears, and lips, we become certain that not only are our souls eternal, but that God knows how to manage our lives, our troubles, our worries, and our days better than we do.
So today and every day, 'let go and let God.'"
Now that's a company I wanted to invest in.
Who says you can't wear your values on your sleeve?
Literally.
Who says you need to be 'politically correct' and vanilla?!?
> Be clear about who you are.
> Be clear about what you want.
> Be clear about why it matters.
And then tell folks.
The best leaders get this and they're unapologetic about who they are and what they stand for.
In addition to my core values, I have a Code of Ethics that I speak about and live by.
Don't go tradin' in a piece of your Soul to try to make more folks like you.
That kinda people-pleasing never works anyway.
Boldly show up as who you are and tell the world.
And remember... the world needs you and your brilliance.
ACTION: The Upside Challenge of the week is to challenge yourself to unapologetically speak your truth.
Start by identifying your core values and what matters most to you. Then, practice expressing these values in your everyday interactions—whether it's in conversations, at work, or on social media.
Communicate your beliefs with intention through your actions.
