"There" is not better than "here."
Being present takes energy and a connection to what is.
In business and life, there are countless lows and highs ...
... projects that crash and burn ...
... and those that work out better than anticipated …
… opportunities that seemed like a sure thing and go sideways …
… and ones that unexpectedly land in your lap.
To accept what is you've got to honor all parts of who you are.
This has been a long, slow journey for me.
Growing up, I was often called a drama queen, ...
... a bit too much, ...
... a whole lot bossy, ...
... and all of the other not-so-nice names that you call those who speak up.
And perhaps my speaking up wasn’t always done in a healthy way.
Yet rather than having been given the tools to step into my powerful voice, …
… it was often squashed ... or mocked.
Over time, I began hating that part of me ...
… the part of me that didn't know how to just be quiet, smile, and pretend as if everything was alright.
The part that pointed out the elephant in the room that everyone wanted to just throw a blanket over and pretend it was another piece of furniture.
While at times I still struggle with that part of me, overall, I've learned to value who I am and what I bring into relationships …
… understanding I’m a born challenger.
And I see what needs to be addressed in order for a positive change to occur …
… and produce results.
Recently, I had a conversation with a client about the value of using your voice for good in the world ...
... vs. seeking to make others comfortable.
I reminded him that comfort doesn’t change the world …
… and it was his responsibility to speak up.
How he chose to do that might look different than those around him …
… yet he was the one who had the ability to effect change.
When I see the gifts I have as treasures to be honored, amazing opportunities show up for me.
When I don't, I get less than I deserve ...and so do the people around me.
Give the world the best of you ...
... by remembering who you are ...
... and staying connected to the here and now.
Because the world needs your brilliance.
And, it needs mine, too.
ACTION: The Upside Challenge of the week is to identify if there are parts of yourself that you are hiding.
How might those parts be valuable assets instead of something to be hidden away?
Consider bringing them out to share.
