Success looks different to everyone.
When you’re not clear what it means to you, the journey to achieving success can get distorted and you may find yourself someplace you don’t want to be.
That’s what happened to Cassie.
We met after a speaking gig at a national organization she was involved in.
After the event, we had a brief conversation about her business and exchanged business cards.
Yet I never expected to hear from her so soon.
Cassie called me three days later, wanting to know more about what I do.
Sharing what I do is complicated, so I listened.
She spoke about how she felt overworked and overwhelmed most days.
It seemed as if for most of her business life, she was running around in circles.
When I asked her about the details of her day-to-day, she said she was an “amateur firefighter” as she put out fires all day long.
After taking a brief look into her business, she was right.
She put out fires ... All. Day. Long.
Others' needs always came before her own.
She also chased ghosts.
The ghosts of success.
Other people’s visions and ideas for who Cassie was and what she needed to do to get there.
Answering the questions of
》Who Are You?
》What Do YOU want?
and
》Why Does It Matter? ...
... were simple, and elusive as she never arrived at her destination and the target seemed to move every day.
To have a business that created health, happiness, and meaning Cassie needed to first redefine how she measured success.
See, folks start businesses for many reasons.
When you do it because you see a problem or a need and want to make a difference and don't answer those three questions – and define what success looks like, you waste lots of time.
When you’re clear, you can focus on what matters most to you and do it with ease.
After our initial conversation, Cassie could see a bit clearer that she was all over the place and needed some one-on-one guidance ... someone to partner with her and hold her accountable to make decisions she had put off for way too long.
We began working together and it took her several months to get clear on
why she was in business in the first place.
She vacillated between wanting to close down the insurance company that she had inherited from her Dad after his sudden passing and get a job to wanting to expand her company and license in all 50 states.
She looked at job opportunities and running a non-profit and simultaneously signed up for a course on how to 10x your business.
I get it.
And I've been there.
After several months of going round and round, she committed to going all in
on the leadership coaching she hired me for.
When I asked her to do something after that, she was dialed in.

Cassie grew the business because she chose to grow.
