When I think about the story of my life it reads like a grand adventure.
Lately, I've been on an expedition of sorts -- and a deeper exploration of my mission.
This is similar to traveling to new cities and countries, meeting new folks along the way.
To better understand what I’m talking about let me refer to Joseph Campbell who wrote about The Hero’s Journey.
It is the story of a hero on a quest.
Mythology across cultures and over the centuries has told this same story
over and over and over again.
You can find the same formula in
~ Star Wars,
~ the Wizard of Oz, and
~ the Harry Potter series
because years ago a Hollywood movie studio exec summed up Campbell’s book and circulated it in the film industry.
When I first heard about it, I thought of my own life, and the times I’ve been a hero in my story, complete with the highs, lows, and turning points.
That’s just like I imagine the passage of your life has been, too.
It's also a component of the Divine Operating System.
See, the hero has to face the thing that he / she has been avoiding …
… the thing that he / she doesn’t want to acknowledge and deal with, and it’s only when they do that they are richly rewarded.
Today my quest is quieter and the grandest adventures I have are often internal ones.
Maybe you relate.
Life at the farm has brought peace and surrender.
Not the kind of surrender where you give up and wave the white flag, rather the kind of surrender that allows you to become more alive.
When I take a God walk, I ask myself the same clarifying questions I encourage my clients to explore .
~ Who Am I?
~ What Do I Want?
~ Why Does It Matter?
My goal is to FEEL deeper than I’ve ever felt before, which can sometimes be scary … the exhilarating, roller-coaster scary, not the being-chased-by-a-bear scary.
I had a conversation with a client who is in the midst of his latest and greatest hero’s journey and has been in a place of feeling deeply.
I am humbled to stand witness to his experience and I'm grateful for every day
that I get to stand next to heroes who are on their journeys, seeing and acknowledging all they’ve endured and the gloriousness of who they are at a Soul level.
From my vantage point, it’s the most breathtaking view on an awe-inspired adventure.
Remember ...
The World Needs You and Your Brilliance.
ACTION: The Upside Challenge of the week is to look at your own leadership journey through the hero’s journey lens.
~ What is the high – or working well and worth celebrating – right now as you lead yourself and others?
~ What has been the low over the past year in how you’ve been showing up leading yourself and others?
~ What has been a turning point or could be a turning point for you?
You are either going into a storm, coming out of a storm or in the midst of a storm and the Hero’s journey gives you a framework to recognize where you’ve been, where you are, and where you’re going.
