What stops you from being you? What gets in the way from you from being the truest version of you? Being yourself is sometimes the hardest thing to do.
“As you become more clear about who you really are, you’ll be better able to decide what is best for you – the first time around.” – Oprah Winfrey
I love that quote.
What’s fascinating to me about Oprah’s message is that it challenges you to think about whether you really understand who you are.
When I first wrote Designing Your Destiny, I didn’t do it because I had the dream to ever be an author.
I grew up in a blue-collar family where you worked hard and did what you were told.
Authors were visionaries who came up with new ideas to change the world.
My reason for doing this was because whenever I would speak to an audience, I would always have women who wanted to have one-on-one conversations with me about where they were in their life.
We would schedule a time to talk – and during our conversation, I would challenge them to answer three simple questions.
I realized these questions were only simple to me.
Just three questions.
Many times, the conversation was wrought with tears as countless women shared that they never were given permission to answer those questions and they struggled greatly with being themselves.
This led to the book Designing Your Destiny over 10 years ago – and has led to the conference Design Your Destiny Live.
So, what would stop someone from answering these questions you might ask.
Well, what stops you from being you?
Or, me from being me?
What gets in the way from you from being the truest version of you?
What has stopped me has been:
And, this is just the short list.
If you let me, I could give you even more reasons where I’ve gotten in my own way.
Oscar Wilde said, “Be yourself. Everyone else is taken.”
And, while that often makes people smile or laugh, being yourself is sometimes the hardest thing to do.
Yet, you cannot move forward until you figure who you truly are and live that.
Action Item: Being You -Lisa Marie Platske
The Upside Challenge of the week is to identify where you’re not being the truest version of yourself. What is getting in the way? What action will you take to shine your light a little brighter?
The world needs you and your brilliance.
Comfort doesn’t change the world.
Vulnerability…changes everything.
