Four Elements to Lead You to What You Want

Choice. Direction. Commitment. Consistent Action.
Four elements to lead you to what you want.
But, what does that really mean?
I speak about these 4 tenets often, yet when speaking with a new client last week I realized that she was fuzzy.
So here goes one of my best explanations – and I’ll try to keep it short and sweet.
Choice is about selecting what you want.
Every time you say “yes” to something, you’re also saying “no” to something else. Choosing gets the ball rolling.
Direction is the course upon which you move once you make your choice.
Some people opt for rocky terrain and believe in no pain, no gain.
Not me. Give me easy-peasy any day which is why I invest in coaches and training programs. I want to learn the short-cuts.
Then, there’s commitment.
Commitment is often misunderstood.
Commitment is the tipping point when you become dedicated to getting what you want – and being willing to do whatever it takes.
Once you arrive here, you’ve done the heavy lifting and almost secured your spot to arrive at your destination.
And, finally, there’s consistent action.
I believe there are 7 Commandments of Taking Action.
- Know What You Want – Be Specific. (This comes from choice.)
- Know How What You Want Can Be Measured. (If you can’t measure it, you can’t get it.)
- Create a Road Map With Steps That Are Realistic. (You only have 24 hours a day. Know your capacity.)
- Write it Down! See It – – Visualize Taking Action. (Think it, then ink it!)
- Set Up A Way To Get Rewarded Along The Journey. (As Kool in the Gang sang, “Celebrate Good Times…” …..I think I’m showing my age.)
- Build A BIG Picture Plan. (Know where you’re going so you know when you’ve arrived.)
- Record Progress (Track where you are so you know how much further you have left to arrive at your destination.)
ACTION ITEM: The Upside Challenge this week is to look at what you want and examine where you are on the continuum. Are you at Choice? Direction? Commitment? Consistent action? What is missing to leap frog you along?
Instead of focusing on what others are doing, focus on your own journey.
Remember, life is change. Growth is optional. Choose wisely. Lead Upside.
Keep riding the Upside. It’s all Upside.
