A few weeks back I had a VIP day (which is a private one-on-one retreat) with one of my clients.
During our time together, she said over and over again that she was willing to “work hard”and “put in the hours needed” to move her forward.
Because this theme continued to come up during our conversation, I called her on it, we explored why she kept saying this, and then she decided to create a new habit that honors what she really wants out of her journey.
Being willing to do “whatever it takes” to get ahead in business has never been a mantra of mine.
Putting in endless amounts of time into “getting ahead” will get you overwhelmed, sick, burned out, or worse.
And, during those moments in my life when I violated this premise, what happened wasn’t good.
As many of you know, I just launched the Leadership Success Summit.
Being my 6th annual event, I’ve learned a lot on the journey (some not so pretty lessons along the way) about taking care of me before, during, and after the event.
Resting and eating well are even more intentional during those two days as the stakes are higher – not just for me but for the people attending as well.
And, I’ve learned that the bigger my vision, the bigger the support I need to get to where I want to go.
It isn’t about all of the long hours I will put in, it’s about leveraging my time and investing in the expertise of others along the way.
This year I’m bringing in the BIG guns to help me at the event and will be introducing three new people that will be there to support me and everyone attending.
The bigger your vision, goals, and aspirations, the more you will need support and guidance.
ACTION ITEM: The Upside Challenge this week is to spend time identifying your biggest energizer in the day and examine what de-energized you. What are you going to do to get more of the former and less of the latter?
Know that when you take care of you, you give the people around you permission to do the same.
