Living in Florida, I’ve been fascinated by Diana Nyad’s journey in trying to swim from Cuba to Florida.
After attempting this feat four times over the past 30 years, she finally succeeded by swimming 110 miles through the ocean at 64 years old. Woo-Hoo!
In my business, I work with clients who have become invisible or overlooked in their workplace or the marketplace.
They’re brilliant at what they do but aren’t being seen or heard for that brilliance.
And, while they may have been doing things to get noticed, their efforts haven’t worked all that well.
Before we begin working together I ask them about their level of commitment. (If it isn’t high, the likelihood of something changing is slim.)
Diana Nyad was committed to achieving her goal and that commitment enabled her to move forward even when everyone else was telling her to quit.
Being rewarded and recognized for your great work is just like that.
You’ve got to start with the end in mind and build a plan that involves staying in front of your audience often.
Additionally, you cannot go it alone.
Visibility is a team effort and when there is more than one person pulling for you, it’s amazing how fast you can accomplish what you want.
Diana Nyad said that endurance swimming “looks like a solitary support, but it takes a team”.
And, this is true in so many facets of life.
ACTION ITEM: The Upside Challenge this week is to examine your action plan and whether it includes a marketing plan and relationship component within that marketing plan. If not, I encourage you to create one. If you don’t know how to do it yourself, consider joining me at the Leadership Success Summit for an insider’s look on how to make this work for you.
This past year, I went back to my own plan of action and added more time to create partnerships and foster connections. The results have been ASTOUNDING!
If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve already got.
