Sid struggled for years and tried everything under the sun.
First, he rebuilt his website.
Then, he worked on growing the number of people following him.
Next, he mapped out a social media strategy with a digital marketing agency.
Lastly, he went all in on building a “funnel” sending paid traffic to his website.
While he worked on improving the technical pieces of his business, Sid forgot to work on himself so the only thing that happened was Sid’s bank account got a little lighter.
And that’s when we met.
Sid was the brother-in-law of a dear friend and she thought I could help him out.
I agreed to have a conversation with him, making her no promises, clear that my leadership work gets results, yet it requires someone to be all in.
Sid and I met at a swanky restaurant.
You know … the kind with the dark wood and tiny prices on the menu.
He was direct and got right to the point, unsure of why we were meeting.
I was upfront with him and shared with him that Sheryl thought the work I do might be of value and my only goal was to see if I could be of service in the here and now.
We ordered an appetizer and over lunch, he started to open up.
By the time we got to the end of the meal I got what was going on.
See, Sid didn’t really get how to lead.
And because he spent the last 18-months trying to grow his business using different online programs with very little to show for it, his confidence had taken a hit.
I could see through his bravado and felt great tenderness for where he was at because I’ve been there.
When you don’t stack the wins …
everything around you starts to feel like a loss.
You begin doubting your worth and value and when that happens, it’s hard ...
... to built a website,
... write on social media, and
... attract the people you’re called to serve.
Struggling with how to fully honor your mission and Divine purpose so that you make money and inspire your team along the way will keep you stuck chasing tactics all day long.
If you don’t first figure out your signature offer, what makes you different, and answer who you are, what you want, and why it matters, none of the tactical will work for you.
Sid and I spent 2 days together and met once a quarter for a year.
We mapped out a comprehensive plan that was simple and included his team.
When you get your leadership dialed in, everything else – the social media, the clients, the income - will all magnetically be drawn to you.
Why?
Because you’re contributing to the world in the biggest way possible with All of you so you’ll get the greatest return on your investment.
Sometimes it’s easier to focus on tactics, technology or other shiny objects rather than doubling down on your leadership.
Sid and I worked together and he got all of that dialed in, too.
I was able to help him write fresh copy after he got clear and the results were astounding.
A 37% increase in sales (!) ... and he had hoped for 8%.
Today, his brand and message are unified and he’s making a mark on the world with greater ease than ever before.
While he still has a bit of bravado ... it comes from clarity, confidence and connection to what matters most.
He just got back from three weeks off and only checked in with his team once a day because he wanted to ... not because he had to.
Oh... and his girlfriend sent me a 'thank you' card.
ACTION: The Upside Challenge of the week is to examine where you’re struggling and trying to muscle through a problem vs. asking for help or getting guidance.
