In a recent video for my class on the Divine Operating System course, I said, “The best way to speed up is to slow down.”
Several folks commented that a lightbulb went off.
If you’re a person who likes to take action or you get tons of downloads every day with your brain firing off ideas like fireworks on the 4th of July, you may struggle to slow down and process.
Yet a tornado of mindless activities gets created ... and a ton of energy gets wasted when you don’t slow down and listen.
Did you ever have a day where you sat at your desk, plugging away at your computer and you got up from your desk and felt utterly exhausted with nothing to show for it?
Been there, done that.
Being in action doesn’t mean you’re productive.
Yet most folks have been taught that a tornado of activity is good.
Not so much.
If you need a creative idea or solution, the worst place to find it is at your desk.
Get up ... and go for a walk.
Movement allows you to have more innovative ideas by turning on the creative receptors in your brain.
If you can’t go out, find a quiet place and write down whatever comes into your head.
Breathe.
Then just write.
Don’t try to make sense of it.
Lots of times you react to what is in front of you.
When you can’t focus, and you feel as if you need a mind-numbing activity, that’s a cue to SNAP out of it.
Stop.
Notice.
Ask.
Pause. Pray. Pivot.
>Stop what you're doing.
>Notice how you feel.
>Ask questions for clarity.
>Pause to breathe. Say a quiet prayer. Pivot if necessary.
Slow down to speed up.
Stop the frantic activity and get intentional about what you’re doing - and why.
After you walk, write down what you want to accomplish.
Then do it.
Ask yourself throughout the day, is this the most important thing for me to do or just the next thing on my long list of things to do?
There has never been a time when it’s possible to accomplish so much in so little time.
You just need to be intentional with your precious minutes and run your day instead of letting the day run you.
Take the first step -- and get outside.
That's where I'm headed ...
ACTION: The Upside Challenge of the week is to commit to increase taking intentional action.
Set a timer if it helps to ensure you stop, notice, ask, pause, pray, and/or pivot.
Because the world needs you and your brilliance.
