When people ask me how I transformed my life, I tell them it was when I admitted to myself that I was the problem.
The only reason I didn’t have what I wanted... was because of me.
I couldn’t blame my family, my upbringing, or my circumstances… I was the reason that everything I had – or didn’t have – showed up in my life.
I could try to spin it 1000 different ways… and was always left with the reality that I wasn’t being honest about the effort I was putting in, to get the results I wanted physically, emotionally, intellectually, spiritually, financially, relationally, or with my work.
Since that conversation with myself… my life looks vastly different.
~ I’m not willing to listen to what others say I can't have or can have.
~ I’m not willing to wait until someone feels I’m deserving.
~ And, I’m also not willing to lie to myself so that I feel comfortable.
When I got that I was the Problem… I could also be the Solution.
This had me focus on where I invested all of my time, energy, and money.
Every single second, breath, and dollar is used with intention.
This goes back to my formula for success.
~ Choice.
~ Direction.
~ Commitment.
~ Consistent Action.
Rinse and Repeat.
It’s simple – and simple ain’t easy.
I choose to surround myself with people who challenge me to go further…
even though I’m often annoyed by what they tell me.
I choose to do what I say I’m going to do… even when I don’t feel like it – which happens more often than I’d like to admit.
I choose to fuel my body intentionally… shifting from living to eat to eating to live.
I choose to move my body every day… even when I’d rather be a slacker and ride around in the RTV on the farm.
I choose to be grateful for what I have so I can be trusted with more in life.
And, the list goes on and on.
I’m not interested in shortcuts or excuses or playing the blame game.
That’s why my #1 value is excellence. I strive to be the best version of myself that I can, and I appreciate excellence in action in myself and in others.
When you shortchange yourself, you shortchange those you love most, too.
After all, doesn't it make sense that the better you are, the better you are for those around you?
ACTION: The Upside Challenge for the week is to examine where you are not being honest with yourself. Are you placing blame on circumstances, others, or just making excuses?
As you get more clear-eyed in your assessment, you will get more clear-eyed in your capacity to address the problem.
Be the solution...because you are.
The world needs you and your brilliance.
