Are you getting closer to what you want?
Not sure?
Here's a way to find out...
First, take out a piece of paper and pen.
Yes, a paper and pen.
You can't do this with your computer or phone.
Write out what a workday filled with excellence and ease looks like.
~ What are you doing?
~ Where are you working?
~ What kind of work are you doing?
~ How long are you working?
~ Etc.
Map it all out. Imagine how it feels during it. And, how you will feel at the end of this excellent day.
Every minute.
All of what you've captured on paper is where you want to go - your desired destination.
To get what you want - to go from here to there - you've got to BUILD YOUR ROAD MAP.
You can only take effective action when you’re clear where you’re headed. Writing and imagining that destination is an important step in giving you more clarity.
Then, you can move towards where you want to go because you have a focal point. The physical act of writing and imagining stimulate parts of the brain that foster creative problem solving.
It becomes easier to see what steps you need to take to get closer and closer to your optimal day, and you can identify and achieve smaller goals along the way.
Step two of getting yourself closer to what you want is to answer these questions:
--> Who are you?
--> What do you want?
--> Why does it matter?
This is the formula.
Spend 5 minutes at the beginning of the day to review what action you will take to get closer to creating what you want --
-- and 5 minutes at the end of the day to identify whether what you did got you further away or closer to this reality.
This activity is from my 1st book published in 2007 and is still just as valuable today.
ACTION: The Upside Challenge for the week is to:
1) Note at the start of the week, "where" you are in relation to your goal.
2) Each morning, identify and write out your plan for the day, and answer the questions a) who am I? b) what do I want? c) why does it matter?
3) Close the day identifying how you did and where you might make adjustments.
4) Do steps 1 and 2 every day this week.
5) At the end of the week note any areas of progress and celebrate your intention and achievement.
