You could use a bit of time off, right?
Yet, perhaps for many reasons, investing in your own well-being feels challenging.
Oh, I get it.
The very act of stepping away coupled by the financial, relational, or social consequences of doing so can feel enormous.
And, what would people say?!?
One of my clients just did this and got significant push back, even from the people who love her most.
Another client failed to do this because he was concerned about the consequences and backlash from his family.
No matter how difficult it may feel, it’s normal and necessary to give yourself time off.
The benefits go beyond your own well-being and create a positive effect that will ripple across your workplace and intimate relationships.
Yet, the struggle is real – and just about every week I’m in a conversation with a client about taking time off or doing something for themselves.
We go through the costs and benefits to ensure they can stand confidently in their decision no matter what other people say or think about it.
Once you can see the importance and impact of the “power of the pause,” it will better allow you to see beyond the challenges.
And the challenges will almost never outweigh the value.
I say almost because there are those times when you need to meet a deadline, push through to earn the rest of your monthly expenses after a slow quarter, or endure through an intense period because it’s imperative.
Figuring out when to keep going and when to push the pause button can be confusing.
That’s why it’s such a frequent conversation with clients, especially when there are competing values at play.
If there’s an emotional component too, then weighting things properly to make an informed choice can be like trying to put together a puzzle with your eyes closed.
One simple avenue that usually works to navigate this decision, is to actually make yourself the #1 pre-priority in your life…before you get to the external “to-do” level of priority.
Because the world needs you and your brilliance now more than ever.
ACTION: The Upside Challenge of the week is to identify your physical, emotional, and relational bandwidth on a scale of 1 – 10 right now.
Are there any areas of your life that are feeling out of balance?
If so, where are you needing to pause, re-prioritize, and re-commit? Life is change. Growth is optional. Choose wisely. Lead Upside.
