Your best life.
What does that mean?
I remember one of my first leadership coaches asking me this question and how I wondered if I would get the question “right” – as if it were a pass/fail question.
And, it brought up a series of other questions in my mind.
What if I got to the end of my life and it wasn’t my best?
What if I held back out of fear – and ended up with a pile of regrets?
What if I didn’t design my destiny?
These were real questions at a time in my life where I wondered what would happen if I kept doing what I’d always done. Where would I be?
Now, the picture wasn’t bleak.
At the time, I was comfortable.
Life was good.
Yet, somehow I knew something was missing.
There is a hanging on my wall that reads, “Sometimes your life is defined by a single moment. Let it be today.” reminding me sometimes it’s just one piece of wisdom and moment in time that has the power to change the trajectory of your personal and professional life.
In an instant, you can shift and change, breaking through what’s been getting in the way – even if you don’t recognize there’s anything getting in the way.
For me, it was this cloudy afternoon where I stepped into a life that I didn’t think was possible for me.
Yet, that doesn’t happen alone.
It takes a catalyst and support.
There are always people standing behind and beside a great leader.
It took my coach challenging me to stop doing what was working and blaze a trail to stop settling for good when he could see I was called to be great.
It took my coach to take me from wondering to having the courage to envision.
To see me – and believe…when I couldn’t quite make the leap.
Today, I get to be that mirror for my clients and hold them to their greatness.
And, I’m both honored and humbled.
