One Person Can Make a Difference

You can make a difference. All it takes is one person, one vision, one voic.

Statistics show that 80% of all Americans are unhappy with some aspect of their lives. (And, some numbers show even higher….)
While you may not be living in the United States as the Upside community reaches across the globe, discontent with one’s life is actually off charts in many places all over the world.
When I think about that number, it moves me into action and challenges me to think about ways in which I can make an impact so that that number decreases.
You may think, “Well, what can you do, Lisa Marie? You’re just one person.”
Yet, one person can make a difference.
Make a Difference - Upside Thinking
- Mahatma Gandhi.
- Mother Theresa.
- Nelson Mandela.
- Martin Luther King, Jr.
One person.
One vision.
One voice.
One BIG difference.
Now, I’m not comparing myself to these people in terms of their impact on the world – or their vision.
I’m simply stating that the power of one can be that powerful.
And, this is why the world needs you and your brilliance.
One of my clients shared from the stage at the last Design Your Destiny Live event that when she signed up for my year-long leadership coaching program, she did it to grow her consulting business.
I worked with her to create a $250,000 contract – and in the process, she realized she was called to open a non-profit to minister to the prison population.
She questioned how this could really be her calling, her purpose, and her mission.
Yes, this incredibly accomplished, highly-degreed woman changed directions mid-course because of a call to make a difference in an under-served population.
Yet, it isn’t always a dramatic, earth-shattering shift.
One of the most important people in my business was called to take a stand — and give voice to the voiceless in her local church community.
And, one of my clients was called to model compassion to her team in a very rigid and at times hostile work environment, showing up as love in the face of inequity.
Asking questions like “how can I decrease the 80%?” are the types of questions that I’m often in inquiry about as I plan my annual Design Your Destiny Live event.
You want happiness, success, and meaning.
And, so do I.
You want to be valued, appreciated, and loved for who you are – not because of what you do.
And, so do I.
Having a peace-filled personal and professional life where you are healthy in mind, body, and spirit makes it easier to achieve what you want in your business or career.
Last week, I attended the Evolutionary Business Council annual retreat where a group of purpose-driven changemakers gathered to share influence on how to make a difference in the world.
I’ve been a member since the organization was founded and have seen the power of one in action.
By being in big conversation with big thinkers who have big ideas, you just may get a big solution.
Change starts in our mind and moves into our heart.
One person can make a difference.
In fact, it’s the only thing that has.
“If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” -Dr. Wayne Dyer
Action:
The Upside Challenge of the week is to examine where are you called to change the way you look at things? Where are you being called to make a bigger difference in the world?
Comfort doesn’t change the world.
Vulnerability changes everything.
The world needs you and your brilliance.
