Wow! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
So many of you answered the call from last week’s Upside Thought and sent me the 3 words they associate with me as well as the words that other people gave them.
My words were ones that touched my heart. Genuine. Generous. Loving. Intuitive. Intentional. Integrous. Upbeat. Dedicated. Secure. Leader. Writer. Involved and Involving. Loyal. Special. Gifted. Beautiful. Smart. Talented. Friend. Wow!
Because of this exercise, you were on my mind all week.
What is your favorite way to spend your time?
Travel is my favorite activity. (In style, of course.)
This past week, I’ve been in Southern California, speaking and working with VIP clients.
My brother Ed & I went wandering around Disneyland on Saturday and I spent Sunday morning brainstorming with my best friend, Becky.
One thing that fascinates me about travel is the people and how they move.
Later this week, I will be in Orlando and in 2 weeks I’ll be in San Francisco.
Same country. But different people in every city.
Just like you – changing and moving each and every day.
When you’re positioning yourself, you have to recognize the changing state of the people you meet, too.
First and foremost, positioning is about connecting with your audience to open that window in their mind.
It’s not about “getting it right” – or least of all perfect.
Your message changes along with you. You’re always discovering new facets of who you are.
And, so are the people you meet.
What’s important is to put out your talents, gifts, and abilities in words that people can hear you.
Words that allow the people you meet to “see” YOU – in all your brilliance.
Over time, you’ll learn how to master speaking to other people’s listening.
For now, delight in knowing that you have something worthwhile to share.
CALL TO ACTION: The Upside Challenge this week is a continuation from last week. Take the list of words that describe you and identify the common theme. What words were used most? (I got several repeats.) Why? How can you build on this as you share who you are and what you do with your co-workers, clients, and colleagues? In your marketing and storytelling?
The world is made for those who stand out, not those who fit in.
