The power of positioning.
Being able to be seen, heard, and rewarded for who you are – your unique set of talents, gifts, skills, and abilities.
And, while I work with clients teaching them positioning strategies so they get the influence and impact they want and deserve, there’s a secret that most people know but would prefer to forget.
But, that one little truth can bring you to your knees.
The thought of making an ask – asking for what you want — can be scarier than Freddy Kruger in the 1st Friday the 13th movie.
Your palms get sweaty.
Your voice changes.
And, you may even start to feel queasy.
Making an ask may even unearth the “I’m not good enough” mantra lurking in deep in your subconscious.
But, here’s the secret: If you don’t ask, you don’t get.
Yep. That’s right.
If you don’t make your ask, you can be sure that you won’t get what you want.
And, if you don’t get what you want, the world doesn’t get to benefit from your brilliance.
The next time you are going to make an ask, I want you to stop and do two (2) things —
1) Ask yourself,
There are times when I haven’t liked the answers, but I discovered my why and was able to re-position myself.
2) Become friends with the word “No”.
Hearing “no” isn’t the end of the world.
It’s also not a “bad” thing.
In fact, I like the word “no”.
When a potential client says, “No, I’m not interested in working with you right now”, it’s music to my ears.
Why? Because my commitment to their success cannot be bigger than theirs.
I’ve done what it takes to be steeped in success, including borrowing money to pay for coaching programs, giving up vacation time with my husband, and I’ve even missed out on family outings, because I am committed to making a difference in the world. (And, don’t shed any tears for me as I’ve also learned how to set fabulous boundaries that allow me to take vacation time every 6 weeks to take care of me.)
CALL TO ACTION: The Upside Challenge of the week is find an ask you’ve been putting off making and practice these two actions – answering the two power questions, and becoming friends with the word “No” before diving in.
The world is made for those who stand out, not those who fit in.
And, if you’re hiding, you’re not standing out.
So, go and be your brilliant self and make your ask.
Because the world needs you.
