Have you ever felt that you were blindly following others’ advice on what you should be, do, and say and feeling completely miserable?
When I first started Upside Thinking, Inc., I knew that I was a gifted presenter, and had a passion for leadership.
I also knew I could make it understandable for small business owners and entrepreneurs, too, and that it could be the secret sauce in growing their business.
However, the more I listened to the typical sales and marketing pitches, the more I was pretty sure that being in business wasn’t my thing.
After all, I had a background in Criminal Justice, and never took one business class in either my bachelor’s or master’s programs.
Despite the successes I was experiencing, I shared with Jim that I wanted to walk away from Upside Thinking, Inc. and get a job. I was exhausted trying to be and say and do the “right” things.
Jim gave me great advice. He told me to be myself, and do it my way.
As Oscar Wilde said, “Be Yourself. Everyone else is taken.”
It’s amazing how so much of what I teach is the opposite of what is being encouraged out there – and yet I have earned the respect of thousands of raving fans and since my clients get incredible results I know what I teach works.
Being yourself means not only honoring how you get things done, but not apologizing the manner in which you do them.
How about you?
Are you currently being yourself, or following the crowd?
Today and always, people will choose to follow the person 1st, and buy into their product, service, or great plan later.
Show up as the leader you were meant to be – and be someone worth following.
Have an incredibly Upside week!
