Ronnie was a seasoned business owner.
He had been doing his thing for years and had a masters in Hustle & Grind.
Known as a "wheeler and dealer" he was admired by his peers.
Ronnie was "the guy" everyone aspired to be.
He reached out and confided that he felt like he was on a runaway train headed off a cliff.
We hopped on a Zoom call, more for me to listen than to do anything.
He talked about "pushing boulders uphill every day" and how he didn't feel like he ever got anywhere.
Oh, I understand.
I've been there and told my 1st biz coach that while I knew how to "work hard" there had to be a better way.
.
She told me to ask questions. Evaluate. And stop trying to do it all myself.
And here I am ... 15 years later.
.
Sitting with Ronnie, I had come full circle.
I listened and told him he would have to change how he ran his business.
After giving him a few suggestions on what to take action on first, he asked about my leadership coaching programs and whether it would help him change and handle the pitfalls.
I promised it would do all of that and give him peace of mind.
See, again, I get it.
You start off with visions of grandeur when you open a business.
》》Freedom.《《
☆ Time freedom.☆
☆ Money freedom.☆
.
Then you feel shackled down to keep it goin' as it takes more and more of your time and energy.
You keep feeding the machine and start wearing hustle and grind like a badge of honor figuring this is how winners win.
This brings me back to Ronnie.
Ronnie knew real estate and roofing. He was a born deal maker.
Yet Ronnie didn't know how to lead himself ... or anyone else.
I don’t care how smart you are, no one can take this journey alone.
You may feel rudderless wondering, "Is this all there is?!?"
.
The Summit feels like a gazillion miles away.
Yet, it will be easier to get to the top with the right guide and mentor.
For Ronnie, that was me.
For me, it was my mentor Nancy.
The brave ask for help, and get the skills they need.
Then they take action.
((No one likes a faker ...someone who pretends the 'hustle and grind' life is all that and they’ve got it all figured out when secretly they're overworked and have unhealthy coping mechanisms.))
Ronnie was so used to handling it all, I had to chase after him to get on my calendar.
Fast forward, and eight months later, Ronnie finally has a team that can hold their weight.
.
The business brought in more money. A lot more money.
And Ronnie finally started to have time freedom.
His leadership skillset sets him apart from peers in his industry.
You don't have to do it alone.
With the right guidance, coaching and mentorship, it’s easier to remember who you are – and what you’re called to do.
ACTION: The Upside Challenge of the week is to identify one area of your life where you feel stressed, overwhelmed or on a "runaway train."
This could be related to work, finances, relationships, health, or personal growth.
Once you've pinpointed this area, ask yourself:
You don't have to figure it all out alone.
We all need mentors and companions on the journey.
Take one step this week to get the support you need.
Whether joining a mastermind group, hiring a coach, or having an honest conversation with a wise friend, you'll gain perspective.
Have courage to take off the mask and be vulnerable.
