When I had the idea to host a leadership event that would bring people together from different backgrounds, I never thought I would still be doing it over a decade later.

Originally created as the “Leadership Success Summit,” I had the grand vision that this could be a launching pad for new perspectives and ideas. The event would serve as a bridge between people from different walks of life who may not otherwise have an opportunity to meet, and I could provide them with tools to be leaders in their businesses and the world.

Because I’ve been a connector for most of my life, I have a broad global circle of influence that runs deep.

Although I was speaking about my 7 Pillars of Leadership, over time, it became clear that the Leadership Success Summit was an old model and began feeling outdated.

I shared this feeling with a few trusted colleagues and welcomed their thoughts. One of them challenged me to get back to basics and re-name the event Design Your Destiny Live, as destiny designing was my core focus when I first launched Upside Thinking, Inc.

I took on the challenge of re-naming because destiny designing remains true to my focus and is really about the power of choice.

It’s not like making the choice of “I want this” or “I want that,” rather it’s about creating your starting point and the focal point for where you’re headed.

Without answering the questions that constitute your choices, you don’t have the clarity needed to move forward. You become directionless without ever understanding why.

To be “in choice” only happens in the here and now – the present moment.

You can’t make a choice for the past or from the past – or really even in the future.

This is why there is a sign at the event that reads, “The actions you take today design your destiny.”

Courageous leaders who are on the path to making a bigger difference in the world understand that making the decision to live in the here and now means consciously understanding the value of awareness and inter-connectedness.

You don’t have to be alone to be a trailblazer or effect change.

It’s taken me most of my life to understand this.

When you are fully present and in the moment, you connect to the creative energy all around you – in nature, in other beings – and you begin seeing new perspectives.

This increases your confidence and strength to make right decisions for all.

ACTION: The Upside Challenge of the week is to notice moments when you are “in choice”.

Have you made yourself available to receive the energy around you or the wisdom through your connections?

Are you choosing from the present moment?

How does this change your experience and outcomes?

The world needs you and your brilliance.

So many seem to focus too much energy on the past. The past we cannot change. We can only change our present, this will allow us to write a different future. Current situations and circumstances have created an environment that is ripe for change. Communication has begun, now we need to keep it going to ensure change. I belong to a local of organization that promotes diversity, yet membership is primarily made up of minorities and many had to warm up to me, a white woman joining. Or maybe I had to warm up to them or prove myself. We have discussed being a leader in bringing people to the table to keep the community conversations going. Talking is easy, action, commitment are more difficult. Do you have any suggestions?
    Thank you,
    Crystal S.
