You have gifts, talents, and abilities that no one else has. Your specialness – your special sauce – has the power to impact other people’s lives.
In my first book, Designing Your Destiny, I share the story of being asked to deliver the graduation speech at ITT Technical Institute.
Because I believe that graduation is more than the receipt of an academic degree or a diploma marking the completion of studies but rather the beginning of a new chapter in a person’s life, I was incredibly honored.
And, while I wasn’t qualified to speak about the future of technology or what career of opportunities the graduates could expect to get in the field of electronics, information technology or drafting and design, I did know leadership.
Here are a few of my words:
“You are the only one with your life. You may meet other people along your journey with your degree; however, there is only one person who can see what you see, feel what you feel, and do what you can do the way you do it. No one else has your very special life.”
You may have forgotten that you are responsible.
You have gifts, talents, and abilities that no one else has.no-one-else-has-your-special-life
You can do something special that no one else can do.
And, your specialness – your special sauce – has the power to impact other people’s lives.
It has the power to make the world a better place.
You are not only unique but incredibly valuable.
And, I want to remind you that the world needs you and your brilliance.
No One Else Has Your Special Life
It’s not complicated.
You know deep within what you are called to do – your mission and purpose – your destiny.
It’s amazing how easy it is to get derailed or off mission.
Yes, I’m proud of all you’ve accomplished but there is still much more to do.
Being a leader isn’t for everyone – but that is your calling.
Remember, you are the only one with your life.
No one else has your very special life.
Action Item:
The Upside Challenge of the week is to get real. If you’re hiding out, playing small in one area of your life, or just failing to step up and stand out because you don’t know what to do or you aren’t sure what to say, it’s time to honest with that reality. But, this is only your reality for the moment. You get to choose what you will do differently for the rest of the day, week, and month to come out of hiding and be responsible. If you truly don’t know where to start, start by having a conversation with someone who cares about you. Don’t have anyone in your circle? Call me.
The world is made for those who stand out, not those who fit in.
Step up.
Stand out.
Be a leader worth following.
The world needs you and your brilliance.
