I’m known for being up-front and honest.
But, I continue to challenge myself to become more and more authentic – to share more and more of who I am with the world.
The recent launch of my website tells more of my story than I’ve ever shared before.(Check out www.UpsideThinking.com and click on the About Me page to see for yourself.)
I cannot explain to you how much stress and wasted time it cost me when I didn’t know how to position myself as an expert.
It’s a fine line between being a ‘know- it-all’ and being someone who knows too little.
And, even though I am incredibly talented, there were times when I wouldn’t speak up for fear of being “too much” or making others feel less important.
The end result was that I missed out on great opportunities, amazing clients, and it took me longer to do the work I loved with ease.
Today, I proudly claim my value.
The journey wasn’t easy.
What I struggled with is now what I teach – how to leverage your expertise (the who you are) so that you can be seen, heard, recognized, and rewarded with big opportunities for your brilliance.
I don’t want you to go through what I went through.
If you’re serious about your success, you’ve got to get three things right.
1. You must know who you are.
2. You must know what you want.
3. You must know why it matters.
I want to talk about #3 — why it matters.
You’ve got gifts, talents, skills and abilities and their unique combination makes you incredibly special.
There is no one else in the world out there who can do what you can do and see things from your perspective.
When you know why what you want matters, you know that you’re all in and willing to do whatever it takes to get what you want.
Sure you may have the plan, but you’re not worried about the how. You’re like a super hero – committed, focused, and mission-driven.
ACTION ITEM: The Upside Challenge of the week is to check in and see if you are that clear right now about why it matters.
When I’m feeling like I have no idea how I’m going to do “THAT”, I know that I’ve got to dive back into my why and swim there for a while.
After that, all is well with the world – and my personal journey.
The world is made for those who stand out, not those who fit in.
