Last week, I taught a module on overcoming overwhelm to one of my private clients.
If you’ve ever heard me speak on the subject, you know that I share that one of the biggest secrets I know is staying in the present moment.
And, the more you focus on time (which would be your past and your future), the more you miss the gift of the present.
In today’s busyness, the word “multi-tasking” has been elevated to star-status, and I know people who believe that answering email, playing word games, texting, and having a conversation on the phone – at the same time – makes them more efficient.
If this is you….
Stop. Right. Now.
If you want to live an abundant and rich life, you need to be present in every moment and consciously pay attention to what you are doing and why you are doing it.
When you are working, focus on work.
When you are tending to your relationships – family or friends, focus on the person/people you are with.
When I got married, I lost sight of this.
If I was in the office, my mind would become preoccupied with laundry, or making dinner.
And, heaven help me if I had a late meeting. I was felt so guilty about Jim being home and me still working that I don’t know how I ever got anything done!
So if you’re wondering how you’re going to “get it all done”, don’t.
It’s not about getting it “all” done.
Simply trust (part of my 2013 theme) that when you stay in the present moment, the right things will get done. And, what you’ll find is that you’re more at peace than you’ve ever experienced been before because you’re right where you need to be.
After all, it serves no one when you live a life of preoccupation — with the heavy, guilty ache that you should be somewhere else doing something else.
Stay present in the activity at hand – and soak up the riches of being in this moment.
