I often speak about the power of One. One person who opens up to a new possibility – and turns it into reality because of you.
Happy New Year!
Last week was a full week, despite being the end of the year.
Today opens a new chapter in your life and mine.
What I’m most present to at this moment is the immense gratitude I feel for you being part of the Upside family.
…For reading, and sharing my Upside Thoughts – Leadership Lessons from an Upside Perspective.
…For reflecting back to me what you heard and how it affected you.
…For allowing me to be part of your life when you could choose to spend your time somewhere else.
Last year was a year of incredible highs and lows – and I felt you with me on the journey.
I often speak about the power of One.
That’s all it takes.
I invite my clients to focus on their one thing – what brings them the most joy – as it is always better to move 3 things a mile than 100 things an inch in business and life.
What is your one thing for 2018?
Because I teach leadership and often speak openly about courageous, vulnerable leadership, it reminds me of the poem, “What Is Success?” written by Ralph Waldo Emerson.
One of my favorites, I had it taped to my copybook in high school and college – and carried it with me in my wallet throughout my 20’s.
Tattered and torn, it now lives in my right desk drawer with dozens of my favorite sayings.
A simple statement, it’s become a mantra of mine throughout the past several decades.
What Is Success?
“To laugh often and much;
To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children;
To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;
To appreciate the beauty;
To find the best in others;
To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch
Or a redeemed social condition;
To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.
This is to have succeeded.“
As I reflect and close the door on 2017, I realize how successful the past year has been despite my mis-steps, mistakes, and failures.
As I march forward into 2018, I’m committed to laughing more often and finding the best in others in a bigger way.
I am fiercely committed to mercy, justice and protection through advocacy.
Ah, the power of One.
One person who opens up to a new possibility – and turns it into reality because of you. Because of me.
Regardless of whether last year brought all you had envisioned, close the door on it gently and walk away with its blessings.
Remember, you are called to greatness.
You are hard-wired for success.
The world needs you and your brilliance.
So, take the time to write out
